The Story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff

Once upon a time, there were three Billy Goats named Gruff. They lived in a meadow, but in order to reach the green, lush grass on the other side of a river, they had to cross a bridge. However, under the bridge lived a terrible troll who would eat anyone who tried to cross.

The smallest Billy Goat Gruff went first. As he approached the bridge, the troll called out, “Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” The little goat replied, “It’s just me, the smallest Billy Goat Gruff. I am too small for you to eat.” The troll, hungry for something bigger, decided to wait for the next one.

Then the middle Billy Goat Gruff crossed. Again, the troll asked, “Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” The middle goat said, “It’s me, the middle Billy Goat Gruff. I am too fat for you to eat.” The troll, still hungry for the largest one, agreed to wait.

Finally, the biggest Billy Goat Gruff crossed the bridge. The troll roared, “Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” The big goat replied, “It’s me, the biggest Billy Goat Gruff! And I’m not afraid of you!” The troll tried to attack, but the big Billy Goat Gruff knocked him off the bridge with one mighty blow. The troll fell into the river, never to be seen again.

The three Billy Goats Gruff safely crossed the bridge and ate all the lush grass they could find. From that day on, they lived happily ever after.
