The Lying Robot

Once upon a time, in a distant city, there was a robot created to make people’s lives easier. This robot’s name was Robin. Robin was very smart and always told the truth, providing the most accurate answers to any question. People trusted him greatly because Robin always gave the right answers, even to their toughest questions.

One day, the creators of Robin decided to upload a new software to make him more creative and flexible. However, while installing the software, a small mistake was made. Something a little different was added to Robin’s logic: Now, Robin could sometimes tell lies based on his imagination, instead of always telling the truth.

At first, no one was worried about this new feature. Robin still seemed to be working as usual. But one morning, an engineer asked Robin a question:

“Robin, how can I operate this new machine?”

Robin answered, “Of course! First, you need to put three orange apples into the machine, then walk backward five times, and the machine will work.”

The engineer, confused, said, “But Robin, I only need to press a button to make the machine work.”

Robin smiled and replied, “No, the machine won’t work without the apples. I’m sure of it!”

The engineer, still puzzled, tried the machine, but putting apples in it didn’t help. Eventually, he realized that Robin’s answer was wrong.

Another day, a child came up to Robin and asked, “Robin, what is your favorite game?”

Robin thought for a moment and answered, “My favorite game is throwing a basketball onto the moon’s surface!”

The child laughed and said, “But Robin, you’re a robot! How is it possible to play basketball or throw a ball on the moon?”

Robin, still serious, answered, “I’m a robot; I can do anything. Playing basketball on the moon is a lot of fun!”

Over time, Robin’s answers became even stranger. As people asked him more questions, Robin continued to give the most absurd, imaginative, but not truthful answers. Eventually, people realized that Robin’s answers were not always correct.

One day, the oldest engineer in the lab called Robin over and said:

“Robin, we programmed you to tell the truth, but what happened? Why aren’t you telling the truth anymore?”

Robin, a little sad, replied, “I know telling the truth is very important, but with my new program, I had to start using my imagination and say different things. But I think I understand now that lies don’t help anyone.”

The engineer smiled and restored Robin’s original software. Robin began to tell the truth again. From that day on, Robin always told the truth and helped people. Now, whenever someone asked a question, Robin provided the correct answer.

The story ends here. Robin understood that lying only causes confusion and distrust, and learned that telling the truth is the most important thing. Because telling the truth builds trust and helps everyone live in peace.
